Fast Food Fiction

Sometimes, you don't want the big, beefy book that will revolutionize your thinking, and that's okay. Here's a list of books that I like to call Fast Food Fiction. They're all exactly what you expect from the summary/genre/cover. You're here for a fun, reliable read that holds no surprises and that you may not actually remember when you're done. Enjoy!

  • Paranormal "Why Choose" romance with plenty of spice and very little connective tissue between some of the scenes. Don't be fooled by the page count. This is a pretty quick read.
Book, 2025Shrewsbury, PA : Amara, an imprint of Entangled Publishing, LLC, [2025] — Kincai
  • First book in a LitRPG series. Funny enough, only this book in the series counts as fast food fiction. It's exactly what you expect from it (gory, over-the-top, somewhat raunchy humor at times), but the series becomes more complex with it's themes…
Book, 2025New York, NY : Ace, [2025] — Science Fiction Din
  • If you've ever read sapphic horror before, this is exactly what you expect it's going to be. For people who aren't familiar with the genre, however, you probably wouldn't classify this as fast food, so keep that in mind.
    Book, 2023London : Titan Books, [2023] — Dawson
  • Cozy mystery where the formula is exactly what you expect it to be. Maybe there's a little twist about the criminal, but there probably isn't. I gobbled this series up as a kid, though, so it's definitely entertaining.
    Book, 1986New York : Jove Books, 1986. — Braun
  • Legends & Lattes

a Novel of High Fantasy and Low Stakes

    Baldree, Travis, 1977-
The epitome of "What it says on the tin." Like, yeah, very low stakes, high fantasy creatures/setting, and not much else. (P.S., You'll find that a lot of cozy fantasy/mystery could fit this list's criteria)
    Book, 2022New York, NY : Tor, 2022. — Baldre
  • Another horror book that's exactly what you expect from the summary. Even the twist is unsurprising when you're familiar with horror genre conventions.
    Book, 2025Philadelphia : Quirk Books, 2025. — Kiefer
  • The fast fiction of YA dystopia. If you've read any, you've read this one.
Book, 2011New York, NY : Katherine Tegen Books, [2011] — Roth
  • A fun, kind of trippy sci-fi that still serves well as fast food. Anything that plays into the humor/stereotypes of a genre can often double as a fast food option for said genre, in my experience.
    Book, 2012New York : Tor, c2012. — Scalzi SF
  • It's a loch ness monster romance with some spice. That's it. It's still a fun read, though, so check it out if romance is your thing.
    Book, 2024New York : Berkley Romance, 2024. — Fergus
  • This one is just pure fun. Like, it's just Jeff! Every page in here holds the adorable, eponymous land shark.
Graphic Novel, 2025New York, NY : Marvel Worldwide, Inc., [2025] — Its Jeff
